Kingdom Population
Also known as the "Heart of Western Glashia," the Kingdom of Langington is a vast, rich land. Home to a large human population (approx. 1.24 million), Langington boasts some of the most impressive demi-human communities in all of Western Glashia, including the Havanathe city of Liedon and the Fpathen coastal city of Markham, not to mention the smaller towns and villages established by Langington's Pseithen and Dervatear populations. Small bands of goblinkind and orcs have been known to find refuge in the foothills of the Fillian and Kienken Mountains to the west, the Twins to the south, and the Innocus Mountains to the east, but few have ventured into Langington's established communities. With the addition of the parcel of land that was once eastern Arvandus, including the Fillian Mountains and a small section of coastline grassland, the populations of the orc and goblinkind have more than doubled. It is also well known that a small population of tassarak, also known as "lizard people," lives within Westor Swamp, located along the eastern coast of Lake Gideon. Although not as fierce as their tassarak cousins of the Swamp of Derras Knog in Kinashae, the tassarak of Langington are given a wide berth by the boatmen traveling down the Langington River.
Kingdom Commerce
The majority of the Kingdom is covered in mineral-rich plains and lightly wooded areas, making it a marvelous place for the numerous farms prospering there. Because of the Fillian and Kienken Mountain to the north and east, as well as the Twins to the south, rainfall is moderate and steady from the tail end of Winter's Thaw to the middle of Summer's Harvest, producing lush fields of wheat, corn, barley, and tremendous orchards of fruits and nuts, as well as other foodstuffs, making Langington the largest producer of food in Western Glashia. Vast fields of cotton spread throughout the land surrounding such towns as Merchant's Cross and Rivercross, while several underground caverns housing huge populations of Zambarian silk worms help create a healthy cloth commerce for the Kingdom. Within the waters of Lake Gideon can be found an abundance of fish and shelled creatures, including the uncommon "monsters" of the lake, bringing about a fair profit for the fishermen in the cities, towns, and villages dotting the coast of Lake Gideon; pickled freshwater crite, a delicacy resembling Heredian crab and found only within the waters of Lake Gideon, has been known to catch a king's ransom in gold crons from as far away as the countries of Sembiac and Exeum. Aside from the foodstuff and clothing industries, Langington boasts a rather profitable livestock industry. Large herds of cattle, sheep, and goats are driven from all corners of Langington to the cities of Eastriver and Gideon where they are butchered, treated, and shipped out. Finally, because of the addition of the parcel of land that was once the eastern portion of the Province of Arvandus, Langington now holds claim to the abundant caches of common and precious minerals held within the Fillian Mountains.
Lands Under the Kingdom's Control
The borders of the Kingdom of Langington stretch from the fringes of the Tempec Forest and the Fpathen nation of Jahhne, as well as the northern foothills of the Fillian Mountains and a small section of coastline grassland, in the north to the bordering territories of Torresan and the Miaford Commonwealth in the southeast, and the Twins, the Sea of Sorrow, and the Independent State in the southwest. In the east, the foothills of the Innocus Mountains and the Mountains of Nerous-taan mark the end of Langington's rule, while in the west and northwest, the foothills of the Kienken Mountains, as well as the eastern portion of the Kienken Forest and the Kienken River, mark the limit of Langington's reach.
Because of its size, the Kingdom of Langington was divided into three separate duchies several hundred years back to better govern the populace and maintain control over the kingdom's borders; with the addition of the lands that were once the eastern portion of the Province of Arvandus--the Fillian Mountains and a stretch of coastline along the Inner Sea--a fourth duchy has been established by King de Angelosis: the Duchy of Eisenford encompasses the lands south of the Kienken Mountains and Forest, east of the Kienken River, north of the Sea of Sorrow and the Sorrow Woods, and west of Trader's Highway and the southern bay of Lake Gideon; the Duchy of Gideon is made of of those lands south of the foothills of the Fillian Mountains and the Tempec Forest, east of Trader's Highway, north of the northwestern and northeastern bays of Lake Gideon, as well as the Langington River; the Duchy of Markham stretches south from the Langington River and the northeastern bay of Lake Gideon, east from the foothills of the Innocus Mountains and the Mountains of Nerous-taan, north from the Tylvanee River and the Torresan Forest, and west from the southern bay of Lake Gideon; and finally, the newly established Duchy of T'non Seld--Dervatear for "high shield" and named after a small Dervatear village found within the Fillian Mountains--is comprised of the lands south of the Inner Sea and the Tempec Forest, east of the eastern foothills of the Kienken Mountains and Trader's Highway, and north and west of the Duchy of Gideon.
Within the Kingdom lie several natural features worthy of mention: Lake Gideon, the largest freshwater lake in all of Western Glashia; Westor Swamp, second in size only to the Swamp of Derras Knog in Kinashae; the newly aquired Fillian Mountains, home to a large population of Dervatear (approx. 16,000), as well as larger humanoid populations; the Kaimen Forest and Randherts Woods, two large stretches of woodland that have nearly doubled in size in the past several hundred years due to the continual planting of samplings by Langington's Fpathen population; Sorrow Woods, home to several Pseithen, Havanathe, and Dervatear communities, as well as the city of Vollmer, the second largest city in Langington; the Kienken Forest, a rather untamed stretch of woodland and home to several fierce Pseithen tribes; and the Baccalla and Langington Rivers, the first providing a navigable waterway for traders and merchants traveling south from Jahhne, and the latter allowing easy access to the cities and towns surrounding Lake Gideon for those Langingtonians living in the plains and near the foothills of the Innocus Mountains.

Although found within the borders of the Independent State, the Tenet Woods and Lake Do-eschan fall within the jurisdiction of the Kingdom of Langington. In the center of Lake Do-eschan sits Oesch-Onarga, the University of Scholars. Home to a small and very respected population of mages, the University--a vast center for the preservation and teaching of the pure, white magic--fell into Langington's possession during the March of the Dark in YK 5215, a war that raged for nearly ten years between the late King Bertheas de Angelosis the First, the great-great-great-grandfather of Durant de Angelosis the Fifth, and the Dark Witch-Queen Claudenium of the Kingdom of Voster, in Alaretra. The Tenet Woods and the University of Scholars had been part of the Independent State when the Dark Witch-Queen and her army--coming over from Alaretra in an armada of warships and striking at the northern coast of the Independent State--tore through the Tenet Woods, surrounding Lake Do-eschan and razing the town of Savoy, all in the hopes of obtaining control of Oesch-Onarga and the powers held within. Seeking a quick and powerful ally, as well as an end to the war with the Dark Witch-Queen, Ballesteros the All, Keeper of the Tiers of Oesch-Onarga, called upon King Bertheas de Angelosis the First for assistance. In return for aiding the Keeper and the mages of the University in driving the Dark Witch-Queen back to Alaretra, King Bertheas was given the Key to Oesch-Onarga, a symbol granting free passage throughout the University to whomever possesses it. In time, the Key was passed down from King Bertheas to his son and grandson, and then on until it reached the current ruler of Langington, King Durant the Fifth.
The Royal Family
King Durant de Angelosis the Fifth is 39 years old and
has been ruling over the Kingdom of Langington for the past
eight years. His father, King Durant de Angelosis the Fourth, died eight
years ago, and his mother, Queen Lyudmila de Angelosis, died
two years after Durant was born, 37 years back. Durant is
married to Ellina, daughter of the King of the Kingdom of
Jordyen, Rhyus Gatau "The Lion." They have been
married for 18 years, set up at the start by King Durant the Fourth and King Rhyus as part of a rock-solid peace
treaty between the two kingdoms.
Durant has one younger brother, Prince Khyle de
Angelosis the First, ruler of the Miaford Commonwealth to the south. Durant and his brother Khyle have a close
relationship, with Durant allowing his younger brother
free rein over the Miaford Commonwealth, even though it falls
within the jurisdiction of the Kingdom of Langington.
Durant and Ellina have three children: Prince Gilman the First (age
15), Princess Kendelle (age 13), and Princess Annora (age 10).
Prince Gilman--in keeping with the peace treaty signed by
King Durant IV and King Rhyus 18 years ago--has been
made a Squire to King Rhyus of Jordyen and his royal
family in the capital city of Fort Tallidor. Princess'
Kendelle and Annora are under strict supervision by Queen
Ellina.
King Durant de Angelosis the Fifth is a benevolent ruler,
slightly more than his father, but none the less a powerful
backbone for the Kingdom. Langington has been prospering ever
since Durant took the throne, as it has for nearly two thousand years under the rule of the de Angelosis family.
Alliances and Treaties
A rock-solid treaty has been in place with the Kingdom of Jordyen for eighteen years, and for more than one hundred years with the Kingdom of Aarenki, allowing for free trade and commerce between Langington and the other two Kingdoms, as well as financial, magical, and military assistance when called upon by the territories' repective rulers. Because of the success of the Kingdoms of Langington and Jordyen during the Arvandian Offensive, and because the Kingdom of Jordyen aquired a large parcel of land bordering against Langington, the ties between the two Kingdoms have been strengthened.
Like the other territories of Western Glashia, Langington does not hold a treaty or alliance with the Fpathen nation of Jahhne, although many attempts have been made over the years. Relations between the Kingdom of Langington and Kinashae, Tsan, and Torresan are good, and simple treaties allowing for free trade and commerce have been established. And as is the case for all other Western Glashian territories, Langington maintains open trade with Cannovan.
Unlike any of the other territories of Western Glashia, the Kingdom of Langington has strong ties with Eastern Glashia, the country located on the eastern side of the Innocus Mountains. As is told in the history books of Langington, large caravans traversed the dangers of the Innocus Mountains nearly 4,000 years back (approx. YK 1410), traveling from the prospering country of Eastern Glashia into an unexplored, undeveloped land. In time, these immigrants created a small community on the northern shores of a large freshwater lake, and this community later grew to become the capital city of Gideon. Eventually the borders of Langington were established, and in YK 3404, after centuries of feuding between noble families, Randherts de Angelosis the First was crowned the first king of the Kingdom of Langington. Throughout the centuries, the de Angelosis family has maintained control over the crown of Langington. Despite the fact that Langington is perhaps the most prosperous and thriving of all the territories of Western Glashia, it is still considered a province of Eastern Glashia by the rulers of both Langington and Eastern Glashia.
